[DL] “Cà phê” Crawl in Dalat

Speaking of Dalat, you can’t miss out the coffee scene there! Due to its highlands, there are quite a few coffee farms, hence it’s Vietnam’s coffee capital! The cafes in Dalat are different than the ones in Saigon – simple, pure, yet with depths.

Tiệm cafe Tháng Ba
số 4 Đống Đa phường 3, Da Lat
When searching the hashtag “dalatcoffee” on Instagram, this cafe showed up the most. The simplicity, minimalism, and the spectacular view of the city caught my attention. I knew I had to visit, even if it was just for the gram. However, the quality of their coffee exceeded my expectation. Throughout the trip, when I ask other cafe owners to give some recommendations, “Tiệm cafe” is usually one of them.

Le J’ Cafe
51a Phố 10, Phường 10, Thành phố Đà Lạt, Lâm Đồng, Vietnam

Le J’ cafe is tucked in an alleyway with a white store front that resembles a Japanese cafe. With limited space, the owner uses ROK, a manual espresso maker, rather than an automated espresso machine!

MANKI – The Third Wave Coffee
Lô 10 Hải Thượng, Phường 1, Thành phố Đà Lạt, Lâm Đồng 670000, Vietnam

MANKI, a low-key, cozy spot with good coffee roasted in-house. With vintage couches and wooden boxes as tables, it create a laid-back ambiance, where I can easily spend a whole day here. For coffee, it offers wide range of brewing methods, including V60, Chemex, Kalita, Aeropress, and cold brew.

The Married Beans
6 Nguyễn Văn Trỗi, Phường 2, Thành phố Đà Lạt, Lâm Đồng, Vietnam

I didn’t know about The Married Beans until we were in Dalat! I had an impromptu visit to their roastery when we drove by it, and the owner recommended us to visit their cafe in downtown Dalat, where I finally got a taste of the coffee from K’Ho Village (the coffee farm that I wanted to visit was closed for holiday…). What makes K’Ho Village coffee special? The soil – the coffee trees in the area are planted with volcanic soil, which are harder than the other muddy soil in other Vietnam regions, resulting in nutty, richer taste for the coffee. Not my usual preference, but always fun to try something new!

La Viet Coffee
200 Nguyễn Công Trứ, Phường 8, Thành phố Đà Lạt, Lâm Đồng, Vietnam

La Viet is probably the most famous coffee shop among the tourists. It is situated inside a warehouse-like building with industrial design touches, with coffee shop in the front, and production facility/roastery at the back. What’s even better? You can book a tour of the facility and learn about coffee production process on the spot!

The coffee scene in Vietnam never ceases to amaze me. Each coffee shop offers more than 3-4 kinds of beans with different origin and different processing method, as well as including one type (at least) of beans grown and harvested in Vietnam. They alternate between different brewing methods, and choose the one that fits the beans, not just a one-kind-fit-all. Have you been to Dalat?
